Welcome

I am a photographer, and I really love what I do.  I wake up every morning thankful for being able to take pictures for a living, while there is so much pain and hurt in this world.  One of my favorites things to do is to sit in a coffee shop and do nothing but think about life.  My photography is an extension of who I am.  I call my style "thoughtful", for a lack of a better word; my favorite images are the ones about which you are able think for a while - those images that tell a story.  I love telling stories.  I am not very good at when using words, however; that's why I am a photographer - I tell stories using photographs.

Workshop Images

Last Saturday I had a really great time sharing my photography knowledge with seven talented people.  For me it was a big privilege simply because I have not imagined myself to be doing this; to be honest, I have never even thought I would be a photographer, ever.  And now I have the honor of helping others learn the great art of photography, something that I’ve fallen in love with over the last couple years.

Here are some images from the workshop.  If you are interested in joining a future workshop, please contact me so I can put you on a list.

danielu - I had to learn it of course, but I did it on my own, and not formally :)

irina - daniel, i was wondering, did you ever learn photography, i mean like a degree or whatever or did it just come naturally?

Photography Workshop – January 30th

In 2009 I have had many people ask whether I would help them learn photography, and I’ve received numerous emails asking  about my techniques and approaches.  Well finally I’ve decided to organize a workshop of my own where I would share my photography “secrets” with those that wish to learn.

Since I already have several sign ups, and the space is very limited, only a few spots are left.  So if you think this is for you, contact me asap (price is shared upon contact)

Alright, well here’s a bunch of  information about the workshop:

-It will take place on January 30th

-It is an all-day workshop. Expect to start in the morning and be done late evening

-It will take place in the Seattle area

-You don’t need to have a camera, but it will be nice if for you to take one since we’ll be shooting around Seattle and you wouldn’t want to feel left out

Here’s a short description of the topics we’ll be covering:

-PHILOSOPHY OF BEAUTY, ART, AND PHOTOGRAPHY: What makes photographs beautiful? Is photography a science or an art? Is it both? Is there a formula for great photographs? Do you have to be “gifted” in photography, or is it something you can learn? Is Beauty objective or subjective? Is there such a thing is an “ugly” picture (as one student once asked me), or is it a matter of opinion?

-TECHINCALITIES OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND CAMERAS: How photography and cameras actually work. Which cameras and lenses are best; which ones produce best quality? How to get amazing pictures without buying the most expensive cameras and lenses?

-BUSINESS: How to make money in photography? How to avoid the pitfalls most photographers make? Basics on branding and marketing.

-PHOTOGRAPHY OF PEOPLE: I will explain my approach to photographing people while we have a photo shoot with our model.  Here’s where you can grab your camera and shoot along with me.

-PHOTOSHOP: Here we’ll go through my editing process.  I’ll talk about my tricks and give tips on the best editing techniques.

Well enough said! Sign up if you’re interested.  I’m no graphic designer, but here’s a little “poster” :)

Engagement : Kae & Dmitriy

Sharing with you some amazing pictures of an amazing couple.  Kae & Dmitriy and I have spent hours preparing for the shoot, thinking about the possible themes, locations, and scenarios…..needless to say it was more than worth the time.  The December day was awfully cold, but the lighting was just right.  The shoot starts out with a set of colorful images, and ends a gloomy-dull feel, which I absolutely LOVE.  These may not be your typical “happy engagement pictures”, but they certainly are very attractive in a different kind of way.  I hope you enjoy these as much as I do :)

Kae + Dmitriy : Engagement Preview

So excited about today’s shoot that I had to give a little preview.  The light was amazing throughout the day, but the temperatures were right around freezing, which made it a little hard on us.  These couple pictures were photographed at the very end of our shoot; my fingers could barely move it was so cold.  The rest of the images (which will include non-gray/depressing shots too) will be posted early next year most likely, but enjoy these two shots which I absolutely love.
